Ashok Pillai heads the Division of Stereotactic & Functional Neurosurgery at Amrita Institute of Medical Science, Kochi, India with a special interest in Epilepsy Surgery. He is the director of the surgical epilepsy program and Epilepsy Surgery + Stereotactic / Functional neurosurgery fellowship training course. Ashok does research in Epilepsy and molecular pathogenesis of familial tumor syndromes VHL & neurofibromatosis. His present active projects include ‘Stereo-EEG in epilepsy surgery’ and ‘Targeted therapies in phakomatoses (VHL, NF)â€™. His specific areas of clinical expertise include 1) surgical management of epilepsy – adult & pediatric, 2) adult and child brain tumour surgery including functional brain mapping, 3) stereotactic neurosurgery, 4) stereotactic radiosurgery, 5) surgery for intractable pain – trigeminal neuralgia, arm/leg pain syndromes and peripheral neuropathies, 6) peripheral nerve and brachial plexus surgery, 7) pediatric neurosurgery, 8) familial tumour syndromes (Von Hippel Lindau, Neurofibromatosis), 9) adult and pediatric hydrocephalus, 10) robotic neurosurgery (stereotactic, endoscopic, R & D).
